Corn Sustainable Agriculture Project for a Leading Biochemical Company

The client company is committed to responsibly securing the global food supply, reducing environmental impact and improving living conditions in the communities surrounding its operations. With a history of more than 50 years in China, the client company provides food and beverage manufacturers, foodservice companies and retailers with high-quality ingredients, meat and poultry products, and ingredients for healthcare products. Sustainable agriculture program primarily covers corn farms.
Project Contents
Since the beginning of the partnership in 2020, sustainable agriculture baseline assessment and gap analysis was conducted for 4 corn bases located in Shandong, Jilin (Yanji and Songyuan), and Heilongjiang, with an area of over 70,000 mu. Based on the results of the gap analysis, supported the client to establish improvement plans for upstream suppliers and cooperatives/farms, and coached them on-site to ensure that the improvements meet the downstream customer's sustainable agriculture requirements. Through standards training and tailor training on weak points for cooperatives and cooperative farmers, understanding of the requirements of sustainable agriculture standards is enhanced.
Project Achievements
Through the implementation of the sustainable agriculture program, four corn planting bases, covering 70,000 mu, established a sustainable agriculture management system in accordance with the requirements of the downstream customer's "Principles for Sustainable Agriculture" and implemented it effectively, passing the customer's audit and obtaining the downstream customer's approval, increasing the share of the supply of fructose syrups, and obtaining more customer orders, received more orders from overseas factories. Through the promotion of the project, the measures of the sustainable agriculture management system for corn bases have been effectively implemented, and the management of sustainable agriculture has been significantly improved. Among them, one corn plantation in Jilin Province obtained FSA silver certification audited by a 3rd party.
